History:

Exhibition Club, Godmanchester, U.K.

The story of the connection between the Vienna rock band Nasty Habits and the founding member of one of the most famous band´s in the world - Deep Purple, Nick Simper, goes back to the year 2005. It was the Exhibition Club in Godmanchester, when Nick and Peter meet for the first time, on August 25 at a show of "The Good Old Boys". Being impressed by Nick´s powerful performance with his band, they talked after show about a possible concert in Austria. Nick was well interested, and so they decided to stay in contact.
Seven months later, on March 26, 2006, Nick and Peter meet again in Twickenham at the Carlo Little Night Of Honour, and details were fixed for the first Good Old Boys performance in Austria in September this year. The date was fixed for September 9, but unfortunately Nick broke his leg and so they had to defer the show (view concert ticket).

Finally it happened on May 25, 2007, that the Good Old Boys entered the stage of the "Reigen" club in Vienna in Austria for the very first time. A great performance with support band Nasty Habits, and for a special surprise Nick came up on stage when Nasty Habits played, to do a great version of Deep Purple´s first big hit in 1968 with them, Hush, a song which he hasn´t performed for 38 years! People absolutely got crazy about, ending up with standing ovations and minutes of applause.

Nick really felt happy, and was very impressed to see people still loving his music from longer ago times.
Another concert of the Good Old Boys followed on April 27, 2008, again in the sold out Reigen club, and again they did an old Deep Purple classical together, Emmaretta. It was the same reaction as the last year, people really loved that song live again. And so the idea was born, to do a complete set of Deep Purple Mk 1 songs from the area of 1968/69, when Nick was in the band together with vocalist Rod Evans, Ritchie Blackmore, Jon Lord and Ian Paice.

The project was titled The Deep Purple Mk 1 Songbook, the first appearance with on stage was at the Orpheum Hall in Graz, Austria, on March 11, 2009. It was a very powerful performance, and the audience was really surprised how much power and feeling has been in those songs and still is! No one of them has ever seen the original first line up of Deep Purple live, and now you could imagine how it must have been when they entered stage. Nick still is a very strong bass player, and with the Nasty Habits this music got to new life in a more than perfect way.

Shows followed in Austria, Poland, Switzerland and Hungary, and it always was a great success. More than 4.300 people were in the audience at the Dolina Charlotty´s in Poland, again ending up with standing ovations.

On August 16, 2010, a live album was released, titled Nick Simper & Nasty Habits - The Deep Purple Mk 1 Songbook (Wymer Records, TSA1002), recorded in Spielberg, Austria and in Budapest, Hungary in 2010. An EP followed, inclu-ding the Roadhouse Blues, Hush and The Painter (Wymer Records, NOR500). The new 2 CD-Box (CD & DVD) "Live At Szene Vienna" (Angel Air Records) was released in April 2012.
